      Hello,

I’ve just installed antiX 16.2 on an old computer. Up to now, I’ve stumbled on 2 problems I couldn’t solve.
      1) How to switch easily between 3 keyboard layouts (without opening the control center each time)
      2) How to add a VPN connection.

I googled both topics but couldn’t find anything useful. Does anybody know how to configure these 2 features/services?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Ok. So I eventually found my way with the keyboard layouts through the configuration files. The 3 keyboard layouts can now be switched on ALT-SHIFT and I got the flag icon too.

I’m nevertheless Still blocked with VPN though. According to the antiX doc, the way to manage it is through ssh-conduit. But I can’t locate the package in the repository.

I’m late in discovering this topic. I followed your footsteps http://download.tuxfamily.org/antix/docs-antiX-17/FAQ/ssh-conduit.htm

and confirmed ~~ the “sh-conduit-antix” is currently missing from the antiX “jessie” repository.

You can retrieve the .deb file from here
          http://antixlinux.com/stretch/pool/main/s/ssh-conduit-antix/
then attempt to manually install via sudo dpkg -i /path/to/downloaded/ssh-conduit-antix
(writing “attempt” because I haven’t tested installing that exact package onto an antiX16.2 system)

If someone can confirm it works for antiX-16 series, I’ll move it to the jessie repo.

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

oh. I wondered whether it had been _removed_
b/c it is mentioned in the antiX16 FAQ documentation http://download.tuxfamily.org/antix/docs-antiX-16/FAQ/ssh-conduit.html

Some development and successful testing was originally done in antiX-16. Downloading the deb and installing in Jessie via dpkg has a very high probability of failure as the package uses some elements from Stretch. I’ll contact you privately about it.

In case you are intending to use a third party VPN service, here is some info that might save you waiting for SSH-Conduit.

The VPN component of SSH-Conduit is not a manager of third party VPN services.
It creates an encrypted tunnel between an SSH client (e.g. your local system) and an SSH server (e.g. in a remote LAN) then creates a secure VPN between them. It is a self contained private VPN and, other than an ISP to connect to the internet, does not use third party services nor third party VPN providers.

One example scenario of the way it might be used…
You are sitting in an hotel and are concerned about using the untrusted hotel network to browse the web. In your LAN at home you have a system on which an SSH server is running. On your laptop in the hotel, you use SSH-Conduit to create a secure encrypted VPN connection to your trusted LAN at your home. All your web browsing is then automatically conducted via your home LAN as if you were sitting at home. You browse the web privately with all traffic passing within the secure encrypted SSH tunnel.

After testing the above mentioned deb package in antiX-16 series (based on Jessie) it fails to install correctly because it is built for antiX-17 (based on Stretch). Trying to download the files from the antiX-17 repo and installing them in antiX-16 via dpkg will also fail.

Just got to do some tests and if they work out OK, SSH-Conduit will become available for antiX-16 series.
                      Will keep you posted.
