I don’t understand the point of 2 workspaces.

::If you don’t like them, you can always just leave the extra one (or edit the wm config).
I, however, need to have at least 4. I use the default 10 on herbstluftwm. It’s just a matter of how an individual likes to work.
For example, I can have htop running in a terminal on the first one, firefox running fullscreen on the second one; if I need to, I can have a file manager on the third, and maybe a text editor on the forth. Maybe I need a fifth to run a game in dosbox, while I’m waiting for someone to respond to my reply to a help request they made here on the forum… 🙂
I just don’t like all my stuff being crammed together. And so, by using many desktops, I have the room I need.

::Hi,
this is a matter of preference.
There are people who prefer all windows on a single workspace and there are other who do not.I find it difficult to switch among many windows on a single desktop because I prefer to use keyboard over mouse and I switch windows using Alt+Tab.
With e.g. ten windows opened, a single workspace seems too crowded to me.
I am used to have five: the first three are for work-related windows/applications, browser on the 4th, audio/music background on the 5th.May 31, 2022 at 7:58 am #83875Member

::“customize desktop, where”? =.Control Centre.
and window manager Menu.fluxbox lets me drag a window over the margin and onto an adjacent workspace, for separate focus.

::To change the number and/or names of IceWM workspaces you can either edit the workspaces setting in the ~/.icewm/preferences file, or create a file called ~/.icewm/prefoverride and put a workspaces setting line in it. Here is mine where I set it to have 3 workspaces named 1, 2 and 3.
To get to the IceWM settings, go to antiX Main menu >> Control Centre >> Desktop tab >> IceWM Settings >> preferences tab (or File, New or Open, prefoverride)
Obviously, you need to save your changes after editing it. Then you need to restart IceWM for it to take effect. You can do that from the antiX Main menu >> Logout menu >> Restart IceWM

::BobC,
Whats that “ClockCommand”? When you click on the clock it runs the script? And brings up a calendar? Could you perhaps share that script here?
Thanks!
My view on workspaces: they are absolutely essential and one of the best features of the linux desktop. I need at least four. I use them as “categories”, work, play, music, etc.

::Blur, try Forum >> Search for antix-calendar.sh.
https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/yad-calendar-proposed-update/
Its a pop-up calendar with alarm that PPC wrote. If I left click on the clock, the calendar pops up. Days with events are in bold, and if you hover over the date the events are shown, etc. If I double click a date, it allows me to create an event on that day or edit if events already are there.
