Hello All-
So with my changeover to antiX from Lubuntu, I decided to return to a previous interest – distributed computing. Installed BOINC client and joined the World Community Grid. Computing for the forces of good, I figure. Putting otherwise idle CPU cycles to good use. If you are unfamiliar, the link would be:
https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org
. . .and BOINC is Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing, client. A person can apt-get install it, it’s the gadget that glues WCG to your own machine, or many other distributed computing projects.So my question is, any antiX folks out there want to make a team? I can’t contribute here as I generally don’t have too much to add to a conversation as I’m kinda green myself, but have found useful information here and a good atmosphere. . .thought this might appeal to some users here. Of the Operating system teams on WCG: Ubuntu users has about 96 users, Apple Mac was about 48, I think Arch Linux had about 24 (I know, wierd 96-48-24, I just randomly looked up some teams). And 5 OS/2ers make up the OS/2 warp team:)
As a bonus, my fastest/newest machines with antiX are a Pentium 4 and a Celeron-D pre-Lenovo Thinkcentres, so I’d be an easy target to beat in terms of work units completed:)
If there’s no interest that’s quite ok, just figured I’d put it out there.
in any case – happy Sunday to you all – or Monday. . .

::Electricity is starting to become a luxury in my country, with the highest prices in history in the last few days. We try to save energy as much as possible, so I don’t think I will be contributing any free CPU any time soon.
Debian is very much in favor of BOINC. You can see here: https://wiki.debian.org/BOINC. They also have their own IRC channel, in case you want to be part of that group.

::Hello again –
Xecure – I fully understand: earlier with distributed.net projects I remember doing the math for each machine I had doing the work, based on the wattage of it’s power supply; they aren’t ‘free’ cycles. And even a small psu (132W) ran me 5 usd to run for a month, nonstop.
linuxdaddy – well, I’ve unwittingly become ‘team captain’ of the ‘antiX Linux users’ team, by creating it. . .so it exists for those that might want it. Oh, in the interest of being totally transparent – my android phone is enrolled also, and it comes close to knocking the desktops out. I’m user oldIBMiron.
in any case – Happy Sunday (or Monday) All-

::Hello there Linuxdaddy –
Just noticed, in round terms, that the results doubled for the team: your *one* machine did that, pretty awesome:)
hope all’s well in your neck of the woods-

::funny it shows up under my contribution stats, stats by project, but not on the my team stats part.
going ok here. I had to hit update on the projects tab in boinc manager for it to show up on the
website.August 24, 2021 at 11:38 am #65567MemberdecaturIBM8215
::G’mornin…
With me it shows up on only on team stats tab. . . or at least that’s where I’m finding it this morning. . .
happy Tuesday. . .

::It shows up now this morning now. think they only update the website once a day for global data
or when research teams pull and validate it. I was looking under the my contribution tab.August 26, 2021 at 5:54 am #65689Anonymous

::Linuxdaddy,
Very Cool:) Unfortunately today I took down one of the two antiX machines, and an OS/2 box running DNETC: my tiny air conditioner was barely able to keep up with the heatwave & I had to think of the cats. . . but back up again now.
A6 is a Chromebook? knew Linux-ing a Chromebook was possible, how has it been for you?
I may have an AMD 9750 that can be added soon. . .
Hope all’s well in your neck of the woods-

::Successfully drafted an HP machine, the AMD 9750, here too – newer (but still older) and more capable than all my older IBM boxes. . .
I feel a little guilty, but not so much as to spite the machine for it’s origin:) It should upload results later today.hope all’s well by you
