This has occurred previously, intermittently, but nothing shows in the logfile.
Somehow I had narrowed it down to involving xdg-open & had proactively renamed /usr/bin/xdg-open_ to prevent future lockups.

Tonight, while booted to a pristine antiX19a instance in virtualbox, I encountered this same bug.
Retesting on a pristine antiX17, I discovered the identical bug can also be repeatably triggered therein.
Further, I tested a pristine MX18 instance and the bug does not occur therein.

steps to reproduce in a pristine (can be first-run, no persistence) livesession:

enter desktop session, launch terminal emulator, sudo apt update
(and/or sudo apt dist-upgrade)(I tried with, and without this step)
sudo apt install kiriki (it is a yahtzee game)
then launch kiriki and click “Help” “Handbook” in the toolbar

      result:
a filemanager window opens… and 100% CPU load.
Close the filemanager and another instance will immediately repoen.
In virtualbox tonight, while the bug loop was underway I was able to accomplish a Logout. During previous bare metal encounters, the only recourse had been to switch to another console and kill off processes via htop (sometimes requiring use SIGKILL or other forceful signal)

From the host system, I captured this screenshot
(representing a moment in time, i.e. the terminal output spews/scrolls continually, re-re-re-spawning fresh processes):

      .

The bug is not specific to “kiriki”.
It is triggered by clicking “Help” in various applications, whenever a helpbutton attempts to initiate web browser launch via xdg-open to display html helpdocs.

Nice catch. These cpu 100 percent lockups happened to me in the past on older antix releases using ceni on atom netbooks. I did a stage right and went with wicd instead. Again. Nice effort.

What if you install libfile-mimeinfo-perl libx11-protocol-perl?

          No, it doesn’t fix it.

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

            Ok – try this

            xdg-settings set default-web-browser firefox-esr.desktop (or dillo.desktop if you prefer)
