I have downloaded the OS to a DVD disk and played with the live version a bit. It is my understanding that there is a way to install to hard drive from that disk and to select a full Xfce desktop environment. If anyone can confirm and describe how I would be appreciative. Thanks in advance.

::Look under Meta Package installer in your antix control center.
The xfce versions are systemd free in there. Don’t use synaptic.
Use the F1 key in slim login window after install to pick xfce.
Now I wonder why MX linux was not picked instead of AntiX?

::Thanks for the succinct answer. I am trying antiX because MX-17 hasn’t yet been released, plus I want to use testing instead of stable. Thanks again.

::AntiX-17 is Stable based on Debian Stretch. But you do have the option to use the Testing repos.
The Kernel has my back covered.

::Right, jdmeaux1952, but if I select testing when I install, then F1 to get to Xfce upon first login, the result will still be systemd-free, correct?

::So yeah. Correct. Forum site keeps screwing with me. Taking forever to page load and deleting threads and posts I participate in. Thumbs crossed on this post.

::Be aware that the testing repos are a moving target so libsystemd0 might get installed until we catch up with what Debian upgrades that includes it eg cups.
On antiX-17 it is now called package installer, not metapackage installer. You can use this app to install xfce4 after installation, as roky says.

::I have installed xfce in my AntiX 17 full iso LiveUSB.
It’s working just fine, but missing a nice feature that Xubuntu & Mint include.
Whiskermenu is like the xfce4 app mgr on steroids.Any chance that the xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin might be added to the repo(s)?

Did you forget to sudo apt update to retrieve a manifest of available packages before attempting that apt install operation?
(another way to accomplish apt update is by clicking the “Refresh” button in synaptic toolbar)

::Many thanks, skidoo & caprea.
I now have xfce4, its Whiskermenu and a lesson in updating repos.
I’ve been poking along with AntiX 17 beta 1 up ’till now. This particular Whiskermenu has a few rough edges: missing a lot of icons,
and the text entry is more conveniently next to the panel in versions
I’ve used before. There are probably tweaks somewhere to take care of
these differences, I’ll have to study that situation. This Whiskermenu does have Ubuntu’s work-around for too much
.xsession-error logging in /home/demo. If you haven’t run into this
before, this is spelled-out at askubuntu/questions/17705. Xubuntu
had a bad case of this earlier.64-bit MX-18.2 using 4.20.12 Kernel LiveUSB on Dell Laptop
