When I join a meeting on zoom using antiX-21 the internet connection becomes horrible and the ping starts dropping packets. When I close the zoom the connection and ping go back to normal. This only happens when I’m using antiX-21, I use lubuntu on the same machine and it doesn’t. I don’t know what’s going on and I don’t know how to fix the problem.

::Hi Pelucia,
Two questions:
1. What browser do you run (if using zoom from a browser)?
2. Have you tried using the Zoom app for linux?

::Hi, I dare to ask few more questions:
1) Is it wi-fi or wired?
2) Try to temporarily turn off all the ad-block stuff in antiX control centre (it could be possible that something is blocked and zoom fervently tries to contact a server it can’t thus causing the reported issue).
If it is this case, you could analyze the traffic network and remove the blocked server from the filter (located in ‘/etc/hosts’).
3) What is the speed/band-width when compared to recommended values, if there are any, for zoom?
4) Does zoom have any options such as turn-off video or decrease its quality in order to save band-width?August 13, 2022 at 8:40 am #87152MemberModdIt
::Zoom works fine for us in daily usage, using latest Firefox LTS in an extra user on antiX 21.
On the normal user only UngoogledChromium and Librewolf plus tor are available/visible.Agree with sybok hosts file may be issue, just search for which servers
zoom needs and make sure they are not blocked. If you mess with anti tracking on Fox zoom
will either fail completely or not work as expected.August 14, 2022 at 1:21 am #87190MemberPelucia Siffred
::@sybok, thank you.
The answers to the questions:
1) Wi-fi network
2) I don’t know how to disable antix ad-block, I never set it up. Is antix ad-block enabled by default? I also don’t know how to analyze the traffic network. Could you explain to me how?
3) Zoom Bandwidth Requirements: https://www.usu.edu/academic-support/technology/zoom/system-requirements
My internet speed is 15 Mbps. I successfully use zoom on my network, it only gave problem in antiX Linux.
4) Zoom doesn’t have an option to turn off the video, but it does have a checkbox to enable high resolution video, I leave high resolution video off to save band-width.August 14, 2022 at 1:47 am #87191Member

How did you install the zoom app? The best way will be to install packages like zoom from the antiX PackageInstaller – that will give you the best configuration and performance. If you installed it from a direct download from the zoom website or from a Flatpak or something, I would suggest trying it from the antiX PackageInstaller.
Also are you using a vpn? I sometimes get erratic networking when I try to run some sort of video conferencing program over a vpn.

::Hi Pelucia,
Wifi network may, for technical reasons, be your issue, if possible please test with a wired connection
before doing other checks.to turn off ad blocking start rox as root, $sudo rox go to /etc/hosts and rename to etc/hosts/backup.
If that makes a difference check which sites zoom needs to work and ensure they are not blocked.
Important to avoid network issues Make a replacement file named hosts with following content.127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 antix1# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1 localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allroutershttps://support.veeva.com/hc/en-us/articles/360019077373-Which-IP-Ranges-Need-to-be-Allowlisted-to-Connect-to-Zoom-Meetings-in-Engage-Zoom-
Zoom site was not at all helpful in this matter.Definitely agree with andyprough on installing, flatpack, more like Fatpack, actualy bloating proprietry package
system.Happy future, look at crowded cage as a workplace in the covid era. Reality in some major us companys and probably
many others too.

::Hi, adding to the other replies.
– Network analysis:
E.g. install ‘net-tools’ and use ‘netstat’, see e.g. https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-monitor-network-activity-on-a-linux-system
There are more sophisticated tools such as tshark, wireshark etc.– Ad-block via ‘/etc/hosts’: can be managed using antiX Control Centre -> Network -> Adblock.
Not quite sure if it is enabled by default, I guess it is.
You can check your ‘/etc/hosts’ file for its content.
If there is a lot of lines/records starting with ‘127.0.0.1’ followed by often strange URLs/domains, then it is currently turned on.August 15, 2022 at 12:29 am #87248MemberPelucia Siffred
::Thank you @ModdIt,
Just remember, Zoom works, but video and audio is freezing every few seconds.
Wifi is not the issue because zoom works fine when I use lubuntu on the same machine, so this is antiX specific problem.
I will replace the /etc/hosts contents with the follow you tell me about:127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.0.1 antix1::1 localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allroutersBut I won’t be testing the changes until Monday, at my next zoom meeting.

::@sybok,
Yes, there is a lot of lines/records starting with ‘127.0.0.1’ followed by often strange URLs/domains, so adblock is turned on. I will try to disable it.
I’m going to check out the network analysis tools, I need to learn how to use them.August 15, 2022 at 12:31 am #87250MemberPelucia Siffred
::@andyprough,
I installed it from a direct download from the zoom website, I will try to use the antiX PackageInstaller. I’m not using any vpn.

::I disabled adblock completely, it didn’t fix the problem, video and audio are still freezing every few seconds.

::0) Zoom web-page requirements including suggested band-width:
https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/201362023-Zoom-system-requirements-Windows-macOS-Linux#h_66cb65e7-a02d-47d5-a067-a85f3d184c6b1) I assume that (since you have a laptop) you have an integrated web-camera turned on.
What happens if you turn it off?
This may not be what you want but it could reduce the bandwidth in use (I read a comment elsewhere recently; few people complained about significantly higher bandwidth and CPU usage when using MS Teams with cameras turned on).2) Is the wi-fi shared with other users/devices?
3) The link you posted with requirements does not list Debian as a supported OS though Debian package is clearly available at their web-page https://zoom.us/download .
That explains why it works better for you on Lubuntu than on Debian-based antiX.
You can mount the Lubuntu partition(s) read-only and explore differences between zoom configuration files.
Make backup of the antiX one(s) and experiment with transferring the Lubuntu configuration to antiX.
If you succeed, back the result up somewhere because any subsequent zoom upgrade will most likely overwrite it.August 16, 2022 at 6:35 am #87325MemberPelucia Siffred
::I don’t use a laptop, I use a desktop with USB wi-fi. I leave my camera off while using the zoom, I only turn it on when absolutely necessary. Only I use the network at the time the meetings take place. The problem never happens when I use lubuntu, it’s like I said before, it’s an antiX specific problem. What zoom config files in lubuntu did you tell me to copy? The zoom installation package doesn’t install anything in the /etc directory, the only settings I found are in the ~/.zoom directory.
