Starting yesterday, I had a problem with my zzzfm file manager. Whenever I’d try to create a new folder on encrypted external partition #6, zzzfm would throw up the dialogue box, but lock up before writing any contents into it (leaving a blank box, and a locked up computer). Lucky for me, the mouse was still functional, and I was still able to log out via the menu. (Note, “App killer” had no effect on the locked up zzzfm.) It took me about an hour today, to find a “fix” for this problem – but, I didn’t really “solve” it, per se. What I did, was find a workaround via replacement.

Starting out, I checked if the zzzfm was still locking up (like last night) at creation of a new folder. The answer was no for other partitions, but yes, for p6. The most obvious “fix” was to reinstall zzzfm. So, I began with that.

I tried reinstallation without complete removal (keeping settings), but that didn’t fix it.

I then tried complete reinstallation – but, Synaptic wouldn’t let me just completely remove zzzfm. It insisted that removal of the GTK2 version had to be accompanied by installation of the GTK3 version. So, I went with the flow, and installed the GTK3 version. Just to be thorough, I also made sure that all “recommended” & “suggested” files were installed.

The end result is that zzzfm GTK3 version is letting me make folders again, in partition #6.
